Our pick of the range of the Citroen C5 is the 1.6 litre diesel with the manual gears. While it does tend to be thirstier than the e-HDi semi-auto, it has a better price tag and the gearshifts are better.

There are different levels to choose from, but in our opinion you cannot beat the entry level VTR. It offers cruise control, air conditioning and a multi-function steering wheel. If you are able to spend a little more it is worth looking at the VTR+. With the step up you get the addition of 16 inch alloy wheels, fog lights on the front and USB and Bluetooth support. The Techno Pack is another worthwhile consideration as it offers up a colour display, parking sensors on the back and better alloy wheels.

At the top end of the range is the Exclusive, this adds-in better suspension, part-leather seating and electric seat adjustment in the front.
