The petrol versions of the Citroen DS5 are expensive to tax and they do not offer the best fuel economy. This means that we are left with the diesel engines, and due to it being slow we cannot recommend the 1.6 e-HDi 115. Another reason it’s not recommended is the electronic gearbox in manual, which is jerky. While there is some improvement with the 1.6 HDi 120, the 2 litre engines come out ahead.
The 2 litre engines are offered in the six speed manual along with the six-speed automatic, alternatively there is the Hybrid4. The latter has the same engine; however, there is also an electric motor on the axle at the back.
Anyone into technology may find the Hybrid4 interesting. On top of this it offers fuel economy that is impressive and good CO2 figures. On the downside you are going to have to put your hands deep into your pocket as it is the most expensive of the Citroen DS5 models. It is also let down by less space for luggage than some of the other models.
Our choice of engine is the 2.0 litre HDi diesel and it may be the best choice for a lot of people.
