It’s big and practical and it’s an MPV offering a drive more akin to a sporty hatchback, it’s the Ford S-Max. We think this is a fun vehicle to drive, it has refinement and it’s a great contender for being the perfect car for the family.

Our choice is the EcoBoost 2.0 litre petrol as it is strong and offers a ride that is smooth. However, many will choose one of the diesel engines over it as they are more frugal along with being surprisingly flexible and quiet.

While the Ford S-Max does command a higher price tag than competition such as the Peugeot 5008, the advantages are that it is larger and it does come packed with plenty of equipment.
